A letter from the Founder
The first thing you need to understand is that I am really bad with people.
That might sound like a strange way to start a letter or a company, but it’s the truth. For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with the small but meaningful parts of human connection—the birthday I forgot, the text I didn’t know how to word, the thoughtful gesture that only occurred to me the moment after it was too late. I cared, but I didn’t always know how to show it until the opportunity had passed.
So, I started building out an idea. What if I had a process to help? I’d began using a variety of disconnected tools like google calendar for birthdays and another app for notes. But they only got me so far. If I remembered to check, I might know that someone’s birthday was coming up. And buried in a note-taking app somewhere, I might see that they liked a particular sports team, and another app might have their address. But at its absolute best, this meant that after an hour of work, I might have a vague idea of what to do. Too often, I was left with a “So what?” How could I use that information to benefit my relationship with someone?
I also noticed something else. Everywhere I looked, AI was being used to automate processes, optimize workflows, or create things inside virtual worlds. But practically no one was applying it to the most human thing of all—how we actually communicate with each other. THAT gap felt like both a challenge and an opportunity.
So, I searched and searched for an idea. I found apps that claimed to help, but they were essentially contact apps. Handy for what they did, but they lacked features I knew I needed. For example:
They would tell me when the person's birthday was (if I’d known). But wouldn’t find it for me and wouldn’t help tell me what I should send them.
It could regurgitate information I'd told it about a persons personality, but it wouldn’t help me draft an SMS to have a beer with them.
At best, it only reminded me of things I’d told it. It never LEARNED about the person for me.
So ultimately, it wasn’t helping me do anything new; it was only reminding me of things I’d already told it! And there was NOTHING that offered it! So that is where Warmli came in. I built Warmli to help with my unique challenges, but when I started talking to my friends about it, they all wanted it too. So here we are, Warmli.Chat.
Warmli yours,
